It always amazes us at Communications
Consultants to see the major expense that goes into a typical OR, in
terms of the most modern equipment, ensuring patient safety, adhering to
Joint Commission guidelines, etc., and then enters the $59.00 boom box
from your local discount store. It's sad but true! This has been going
on for years. The biomeds and staff from engineering departments have
gone crazy trying to perform safety checks on these boom boxes for ground
resistance or ground currant. It can't be done! Electrical safety,
magnetic near fields and theft are only a few of the problems related to
OR boom boxes! Communications Consultants has the solution. It's our new
stand-alone O.R. Sound System and our O.R. Sound Hub System.

The O.R. Sound hub system is a low voltage sound system with a main hub equipment cabinet
typically located in an electrical closet near the ORs. The hub equipment cabinet supplies power
and radio signals to each individual stereo at each location. The isolation equipment cabinet
assures electrical safety from lightening, magnetic near fields and interference from the outside
antennas located typically on the roof. Three different models of O.R. Sound systems are
available for counter top, under counter or flush in-wall configurations with a variety of
mounting brackets and security lockdown mounts. Our stand-alone system incorporates its own
power supply and AM/FM antenna and typically is not installed in ORs. It is ideal for cath labs,
MRIs and other areas. In new construction, typically high quality flush mount speakers with an
optional subwoofer is installed in each OR. For existing ORs, access into the ceilings is
sometimes difficult and it may be necessary to install surface mount speakers. Great care is taken
with regard to the placement of the OR Sound system and speakers to prevent any possible
interaction with medical equipment. We also try to locate the stereo for user-friendly access.
Because this is a low-voltage system in many cases most biomeds will not have to perform a
routine safety check on each stereo. Model numbers change from time to time, as do specs.
Architectural drawings, cut sheets and information of each model is available upon request. Site
visits to your facility are also available upon request.
The O.R. Sound stand-alone system is ideal for cath
labs, MRI (with transducer) and other areas. The stand-alone system has
a built-in flexible insulated antenna for FM reception and it, too,
includes an anti-theft lockdown bracket. A variety of surface or
flush-mount speakers are available. Each system has a one-year warranty
replacement. Once the system is in place, replacement items such as the
AM/FM tuner or CD player is inexpensive if and when required.
